Protecting Your Garden
When you have a garden that you put a lot into, you want to make sure you protect it from anything that can get in its borders and destroy the things that you are trying to grow. Here are some of the things you want to protect your garden from, along with tips on how to do so:
- Keep critters out of your garden: There are all kinds of critters and even large animals that you may need to protect your garden from, possibly even including your own pets. Putting a fence around the garden can keep it safe from your own pets, as well as some other large animals that you may find wandering into your yard. Some of the other critters you may need to keep it safe from can include everything from rabbits to skunks. There are many methods you can try to detour these types of animals. You can use store bought deterrent sprays, motion sensing sprinklers, noisemakers, and more.
- Keep birds out of your garden: Birds can be another thing that you will need to protect the garden from and some birds can be stubborn, making it difficult to keep them out. IN some cases, a small scarecrow that you put at the edge of your garden may work. However, in other cases, you may need to try other methods which can include putting a net up over the garden so the birds can't get into it or even laying chicken wire over your seedlings. You can also place crates over the seedlings or clear disposable cups that you push into the ground a bit so they don't blow away.
- Keep weeds out of your garden: Weeds are another thing that can quickly take over your garden if you aren't careful. Luckily, you can control weeds as long as you are willing to put in the added effort on a regular basis. You want to manually pull any and every weed that you see sprouting up in or near your garden. If you find that you are fighting them a lot, then you may also want to purchase some weed control supplies and spray around the garden. If you are growing edible items in the garden, then make sure that you are using something that will be safe for your edible garden and be sure that you follow all of the instructions that are on the label of the product.
